***Is your love blueprint stopping you from finding your soulmate?

I watched The Bachelor the other night… In my defence there was absolutely nothing to watch on the television and it was the season premiere and… oh well, I might as well admit it, I saw the previews and the man in question looks quite disarming. Obviously… my curiosity is piqued.

For one whole hour I watched a whole group of women clamor over one man, and that one man in question seemed to have everything but the right woman to spend his life with. Not to pass any judgement on anyone ( okay, maybe a tad bit… I am human with my biases… ), but it got me thinking about how finding their soulmate makes an otherwise perfectly sane person do things they normally wouldn’t do, what more to say to do it in front of the camera and the whole world. The things we do in the name of love….

Isn’t it ironic that in a world where the population is over 6 trillion strong that finding a soulmate is still a struggle for so many? Even with the technology where you are no longer limited to prospects in your own city, there’s still such a huge amount of singles online and offline looking for love and there’s a huge array of products and services to fill that need.

As much as I advocate `putting yourself out there’ be it with an online profile or just going out to meet people in your neighbourhood, from a feng shui perspective I would like to offer the idea that each of us are born with a certain kind of destiny where your love relationships are concerned. Some people have good relationship karma where the right partner just fell on their lap without them asking for it. Some have not-so-good relationship karma where it feels like you’re heading towards a dead end over and over again.

How would you know if you have good or bad relationship karma? As a feng shui practitioner who reads the 4 Pillars of Destiny birth chart ( in Mandarin it’s called bazi, or in Cantonese known as paht chee ) which gives us a complete picture of one’s heaven luck ( a feng shui term for destiny ), there are a few things we can gather where love is concerned - your love blueprint, if you may.

First of all, one can see if the Spouse Star or boyfriend / girlfriend luck is present in the chart and if it is auspicious for the owner of the chart. Second, we can take a look whether there’s the Peach Blossom Luck ( in feng shui known as the romance luck ) in the chart and also whether it is auspicious or not ( auspicious Peach Blossom Luck obviously means really good potential to find love, but if it’s inauspicious it also means negative relationships such as a scandalous romance ). There’s also the Red Matchmaker which usually is a huge indication of marriage, or the Red Chamber which usually warns us of carnal-related destruction ). You do need a practitioner to help you read these charts as there are numerous guidelines and rules to follow in order to read the chart effectively, but nevertheless it gives one a great overview of what’s to come.

So what if your 4 Pillars Chart doesn’t show any indication of finding that love ever after? We are not here merely as corks being thrown in the rough sea, being tossed around as the environment sees fit. We DO have free will, so don’t forget the 3 Trinity of feng shui – Heaven Luck, Earth Luck and Man Luck. The chart gives you a good idea of what Heaven Luck ( destiny ) might have in store for you, but that doesn’t mean you can’t change your destiny through Earth Luck ( ie. feng shui ) and Man Luck ( ie. your own actions ). But obviously, if you line up all three aspects together then the love manifestation will happen much faster. For instance, if the chart doesn’t show you being involved with someone let’s say 20 yrs from now, there’s always a way for us to help destiny along and shorten the timeline!

I know I’ve mentioned it before but I’ll say it again. The difference between the 4 Pillars and regular destiny / life readings is that there are certain situations that can be remedied if you know about it early enough, and those remedies are usually through feng shui, charity, mantras etc. So intead of being defeatist when the chart tells of a looming problem ( ie. an affair or a divorce ), a combination of Earth Luck as well as Man Luck can help you minimize the challenge, or in certain situations might even help you avert it altogether.

If, as a spiritual love seeker you can sense that there is a piece of the puzzle missing in your quest to find your highest and best love, proper feng shui as well as a study of your 4 Pillars will most likely complete the picture for you.

Your house not selling? Check your feng shui!

The past few years we've heard of how housing value in the states have been slammed and how some experts are even saying that we haven't seen the worse yet.

Here in Canada however, and especially in Toronto, though we're seeing the market starting to soften a bit there's still a bit of competition going on and house values still remain fairly high. When you see a house listed with 'new price' or 'motivated seller', you know that's not a good sign.

So what do you think about a house that checks the following boxes :

- 5-minute walk away from a subway station

- 3 good sized bedrooms and 2 full baths

- family-friendly street with a school just round the corner

- very beautifully decorated considering the couple consists of an architectural engineer and an interior designer

- fully finished basement

Even in a soft market I thought this house wouldn't last on the market too long. However, it did. For months. There were apparently many times where they were close to getting an offer but something, somehow always falls through at the last minute.

Though the husband was straddling between being a skeptic and wanting to believe, the wife contacted me saying they're willing to see if a feng shui audit would help in selling the house.

First thing I realized, the compass direction inside and outside the house is not aligned. What does this tell me? I essentially need to do the internal and external feng shui based on 2 separate energetic charts. Is this common? Not before, but I can't tell you why I'm starting to see more and more of this in my practice. The mistake most schools of feng shui would make is to just treat the internal and external as a whole. If you do this you'll essentially only be 50% right. And I don't want to be 50% right and charge my client for it.

The unfortunate news for this is the external direction doesn't support the couple especially for 2012, so that needed to be remedied.

The main house was afflicted with what was directly opposite it - a tree. Though it looked harmless to the non-fengshui-eye, this is a big poison arrow pointing right at the mouth of the house. A big no-no. That needed to be remedied as well.

Floor lights were placed where they were strengthening afflictions and needed to be moved.

Their power wealth corners were actually well positioned and very easily activated, and though placing water features will violate the Direct and Indirect Spirit ( Ling Shen Zhen Shen ) they could strengthen it by other active items.

The center of the house has the dreaded 5/2 xuan kong flying star feng shui combination. And that happened to be their dining table which gets A LOT of use. When I asked if there's possibility of them to reduce usage of that area, this is where I could see I'll get some "are you kidding me?" looks. And I did. :) I know it's a lot to ask, so I said at the very least don't turn on the lights too long in that area.

But this is also the part where I advised them they will need to sell the house before the annual energy shifts next year as things will get really, really challenging in that house unless drastic measures were taken.

They asked me a very valid question: their next door neighbour has the mirror image of their layout, yet it was only on the market for a short while before being snapped up. I asked them what are the differences between the 2 units and they said mainly how their dining table is at the front where they themselves have their living room, and vice versa. I said, so if your neighbour had the living room in the center but it doesn't get as much use as the dining table ( assuming they use the basement as the family room as well ), that alone would have helped them reduce the affliction as they won't be strengthening it as much as my clients do in their house. Of course, I didn't see what else the neighbour did in their house when it sold so I acknowledge this is all theoretical.

Anyhow, the audit was done with recommendations leaning heavily on boosting up the main floor and the front door.

About 2 and a half weeks later, the house sold.

The husband feels it could be coincidence. I don't have a problem giving it that. I realize the challenge in this profession is, sometimes it IS hard to prove if it's really feng shui. We don't have insight to a parallel universe of the same house that wasn't feng shui-ed ( oh how I wish we do!!! ) to know for sure if that's the success factor here. But if the house was on the market for ( I believe ) six months and it just so happened to have sold after it got properly feng shui-ed, I'll let everyone else do the questioning and the "I wonder". I'm not here to prove my knowledge is superior. I'm just here to use feng shui and help you get closer to the results you're seeking.

If the colors are too bright or too loud, you can feel hyper, out of sorts and argumentative so use quieter, softer or more pastel colors to lower the energy level. Simple changes like these will lift your spirits and mood, plus help you be more productive and in control of your life.

Make shapes work for you. Hard straight lines in furniture and hallways dramatically increases the speed of energy as it moves through your surroundings making you feel edgy, distant and even detached. Add softness with pillows, draperies, throws and area rugs or softer furniture. Curving soft lines of upholstered furniture, pictures with gentle streams and fabric window treatments slow energy down as it meanders through your surroundings. You must be in control of yourself, which sometimes means making tough choices about eliminating the negative people from your immediate surroundings. You do not necessarily need to totally remove them from your life but significantly reduce the amount of time you spend with them. Surround yourself with positive uplifting and encouraging people and they will help you create a better tomorrow.

Your stove and kitchen play a key role in improving the health, wealth, prosperity, and abundance of your home and family. The location of your stove in relationship to the other appliances and windows is significant because it determines your overall abundance. It also affects how much personal vitality you have, whether you will be properly nourished, and your overall personal well-being. When on the outside of your house, the front door rules. When on the inside of your house, the bed is the king but the kitchen, and especially the stove, is queen.

• Do place a bowl of fresh fruit on the kitchen counter nearest the center of your home to energize abundance – if you cannot eat the fresh fruit before it spoils, great faux fruit will also work to represent abundance

It is not always possible to have the stove in the perfect position in the kitchen but as noted, you can use some of the remedies to correct the problems. Pay special attention to the stove itself.

• Do clean it after every use, and keep it as spotless as possible
• Do make sure all knobs, switches and burners are working – if not fix them as they stand in the way of prosperity, abundance wealth and health
• Do make sure the stove burners are level so you have a level playing field to nourish health, wealth and abundance
• Do regularly rotate the use of the burners, making sure you use all of them to ensure a complete cycle of good fortune and health
• Do keep the oven empty for both safety from accidentally starting a fire and to welcome abundance energy
