Vaastu Tips-Top Five Points You Must Check When Looking for A New Plot

People who know something about Vaastu, which is ancient architectural science, would also know that it's all about placing balance in all the five elements and cosmic energies. If this balance get wobble the problems occur in the one's life.


One's life starts with his home. It's a bit difficult to implement all the principles and rules of Vaastu in a house/building already built, although it's possible. But if you are going to construct a new building then it can be proved more accessible and beneficial to take care of Vaastu rules and principles from the start.


Generally, when people look for the plot before the construction, they give more priority to the facilities, legal authority of the plot, their budget etc. But they ignore the rules of Vaastu which place harmony and balance. If Vaastu is considered with all other important things then your new house/building can bring your dreams true.
So, what Vaastu suggests for your new plot. Well it's a huge list and all points can't be mentioned in this single article. Let's learn about the most important ones.


1. Surroundings of the plot- Surroundings of the plots should be taken care of. Plots surrounded with plants, trees and greeneries are auspicious. If you are buying plot to build new house then there mustn't be any workshops, meat-shops and other similar place that cause smell, near the plot. As it generate negative energy for the inmates of the house.


Also consider that the plot shouldn't be in the middle of two other big plots. This will bring to you negative feelings and lead you to poverty.


2. Plot near Public Place- If you are going to buy a plot near any public place like school, hospital, temple or college etc, then it's not good as per Vaastu. Because such places have no peace and hence inmates of the house in near area, can face the problems like- lack of peace, concentration etc. But, public places 80-100 ft away from the plot, will not affect the Vaastu of the plot.


3. Take care of roads near your plot- A plot facing a road ending to it is not good. You can call it "T" or vedh shool. But the plot which is surrounded by running roads from all the direction is considered good for commercial purposes. Also plots having road in north or east direction are auspicious. As this cause more space in these direction which is good to have positive energy through sunlight.


4. South of plot- If the south of your plot is heavy, it's good. Things like hillocks, mounds of earth, huge buildings etc in the southern make it heavy which is good according to Vaastu.


5. North east of plot- Northeast is the direction which the sunlight comes to you from, which is a great source of positive energy. And that's why Vaastu suggests that there should be no huge buildings, bridge or any other obstacles in northeast direction, very near to your plot. Note that the distance between your plot and obstacles should be double than the height of your new building.


If there's source of water, like river or canal near your plot, it should be in north or east direction and the flow of water should be either west to east or south to north.


These are top points, which can be considered and easily understood by general people. But there are more things one can look for while buying a new plot like facing of plot, shapes of Plot. Having a structure, free of all Vaastu defects needs the appropriate consultation of professionals. Soon we shall discuss about the points that should be take care of during the construction of building.

Your house not selling? Check your feng shui!

The past few years we've heard of how housing value in the states have been slammed and how some experts are even saying that we haven't seen the worse yet.


Here in Canada however, and especially in Toronto, though we're seeing the market starting to soften a bit there's still a bit of competition going on and house values still remain fairly high. When you see a house listed with 'new price' or 'motivated seller', you know that's not a good sign.


So what do you think about a house that checks the following boxes :


- 5-minute walk away from a subway station


- 3 good sized bedrooms and 2 full baths


- family-friendly street with a school just round the corner


- very beautifully decorated considering the couple consists of an architectural engineer and an interior designer


- fully finished basement


Even in a soft market I thought this house wouldn't last on the market too long. However, it did. For months. There were apparently many times where they were close to getting an offer but something, somehow always falls through at the last minute.


Though the husband was straddling between being a skeptic and wanting to believe, the wife contacted me saying they're willing to see if a feng shui audit would help in selling the house.


First thing I realized, the compass direction inside and outside the house is not aligned. What does this tell me? I essentially need to do the internal and external feng shui based on 2 separate energetic charts. Is this common? Not before, but I can't tell you why I'm starting to see more and more of this in my practice. The mistake most schools of feng shui would make is to just treat the internal and external as a whole. If you do this you'll essentially only be 50% right. And I don't want to be 50% right and charge my client for it.


The unfortunate news for this is the external direction doesn't support the couple especially for 2012, so that needed to be remedied.


The main house was afflicted with what was directly opposite it - a tree. Though it looked harmless to the non-fengshui-eye, this is a big poison arrow pointing right at the mouth of the house. A big no-no. That needed to be remedied as well.


Floor lights were placed where they were strengthening afflictions and needed to be moved.


Their power wealth corners were actually well positioned and very easily activated, and though placing water features will violate the Direct and Indirect Spirit ( Ling Shen Zhen Shen ) they could strengthen it by other active items.


The center of the house has the dreaded 5/2 xuan kong flying star feng shui combination. And that happened to be their dining table which gets A LOT of use. When I asked if there's possibility of them to reduce usage of that area, this is where I could see I'll get some "are you kidding me?" looks. And I did. :) I know it's a lot to ask, so I said at the very least don't turn on the lights too long in that area.


But this is also the part where I advised them they will need to sell the house before the annual energy shifts next year as things will get really, really challenging in that house unless drastic measures were taken.


They asked me a very valid question: their next door neighbour has the mirror image of their layout, yet it was only on the market for a short while before being snapped up. I asked them what are the differences between the 2 units and they said mainly how their dining table is at the front where they themselves have their living room, and vice versa. I said, so if your neighbour had the living room in the center but it doesn't get as much use as the dining table ( assuming they use the basement as the family room as well ), that alone would have helped them reduce the affliction as they won't be strengthening it as much as my clients do in their house. Of course, I didn't see what else the neighbour did in their house when it sold so I acknowledge this is all theoretical.


Anyhow, the audit was done with recommendations leaning heavily on boosting up the main floor and the front door.


About 2 and a half weeks later, the house sold.


The husband feels it could be coincidence. I don't have a problem giving it that. I realize the challenge in this profession is, sometimes it IS hard to prove if it's really feng shui. We don't have insight to a parallel universe of the same house that wasn't feng shui-ed ( oh how I wish we do!!! ) to know for sure if that's the success factor here. But if the house was on the market for ( I believe ) six months and it just so happened to have sold after it got properly feng shui-ed, I'll let everyone else do the questioning and the "I wonder". I'm not here to prove my knowledge is superior. I'm just here to use feng shui and help you get closer to the results you're seeking.
