Tarot Affirmations, Eight of Cups for Detachment, Cutting Ties

About: Tarot Affirmations are positive statements using the Tarot, to center ourselves while energizing our Mojo! My goal is to help invigorate higher vibrations with creative visualization for self-awareness, while enhancing one's perspective, confidence, and productivity. Becoming part of the imagery is a necessity as it allows all senses to be encountered. Proclaiming and vocalizing your personal statement out-loud 'seals your agreement' with the Universe. Disciplined practitioners sense a significant change within seventy-two hours of repeating the oath. Inexperienced users must understand that it can take a little longer until you find your own rhythm to encounter the magic of will and assertion.

Homework In this practice, it will be VERY helpful to have a handful of objects with personal representation - and to place them in a small shoebox (or container of some sort). This would be a receptacle of emotional value, of where you have invested much of yourself into for the past few years.

To start, begin by taking some quality time to list where your concentration has been for the last seven years. You can make it general or specific. There is no right or wrong way to do this - but you need to be genuine and WANT to create detachment.

When your list is complete, find different things that would be used to act as a symbol per item - and place it in the box. This again is necessary and beneficial to the meditation, so that you are completely involving your deepest thoughts, emotions, and memories. To give you an example of what I asking of you, my own focus has been on self-transformation, healing, spirituality, creativity, communications, individualism, work, family, friends, and trust. In my box, I have photos of individuals that I have had relationships with in the past seven years, a mirror for individualism, matches for transformation, a heart frame for trust, and so on. Do your homework first before moving on, as this is the main part of the exercise.

Once you have spent quality time on this part of the exercise, take this box of precious memories and put it somewhere faraway in your place, like the attic, or basement. I've done it a step further and dumped it in an empty trash bag.

Meditation: Sit for a few minutes alone, with eyes closed and a goal to relax. Calm all thoughts and emotions until you are aware of the quietness that surrounds you. With slow and deep breaths, feel yourself float into this calm energy, feeling your body and mind also adjusting to this quietness. All the noise disappears and you feel at peace. Pay attention to the soundless spirit, as you cleanse and exist with silence.

Visualization: Today's card image can assist you in this meditative affirmation. Take a look at the Eight of Cups and become part of the image. The first thing to concentrate on is the eight golden cups, which symbolize your box of treasured memories, where you have again, invested so much of yourself - creating a shrine of importance out of it and yourself. Visualize it and place it all where the cups are stacked. This is your 'junk drawer' (as I call it) - the items, the thoughts, and the emotions that have been embedded so deeply into the drawer and yourself. It's not needed anymore, but like the junk drawer, who takes the time to just dump them and make better use of the space. All this stuff represents who you were, and the memories are saved to prove it.

You are a different person (than you use to be), because of all the stuff you chose to collect and hold onto. Think about who you were before all these things became of great importance? Take all the time that you need to sit back and allow sensations to rise - the good AND the bad. Take a walk down memory lane and allow it to feel real. Once you've brought up all your feelings, notice what you experiencing, mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually - and imagine yourself dumping all of this into your shrine as well. Visualize every last drop of what you have drudged up from the yesteryears, and force it all into those cups/box - like trying to pack an overstuffed suitcase. Use your hands if needed, to push it all away. Let it ALL go. Everything. Until you feel nothing is left to give.

Quietly, sit and rest. Breathe slowly, allowing all to be cleansed from your energy. No thoughts. No emotions. No memories. You should feel a sort of 'hollow emptiness'. That is suppose to be your normal state of mind - pure and natural. This is how you are suppose to feel when exhausting and severing ties with emotional attachments. You are only person who has put much importance into the shrine - no one else. Everyone else followed their path, and you went on yours. You made a HUGE sacrifice to find your way. There isn't a lot of traffic on this road, so loneliness was to be expected. All that you have learned, experienced, developed, and manifested in the past seven years - is ready to be put to rest. Your soul searching for change, answers, and healing has been completed. Although you have been guided in therapeutic and challenging ways - you relied on no one else to reach this point in your life. You have found what you were looking for. It is finished, and there is no more to 'figure out'. You have overcome great obstacles and because of your dedication - emotional balance and peace has been restored.

As in the image, you can now walk away and leave it all behind... your items, the junk drawer, the shrine that became your church of great self-compassion, forgiveness, life lessons, and healing. It is time to leave this part of you behind, as you have reinvented yourself in order to get back with the living. 'FEEL' the lighter weight as you detach from the heavy, decayed carcass that you have been holding onto - and living in. It serves no value or purpose anymore - just like when the body dies, the soul continues to live on. Life changes, and so has your direction. You are a new person, with a new purpose. Be aware of the great strengths that you have developed in these recent years - because of the path you chose. Your self-realization, self-trust, self-confidence, and self-reliance is all you need for protection and prosperity.

The Affirm: While being one with yourself, announce your trusted affirmation:

I forgive and release my shadows.
I have no reason to rely on the past.
I own the key to my prison cell.
I see life with a brand new set of eyes.
I'm much smarter and wiser now.

On a personal note, I wanted to share a thought while I was looking for a timing, and normally one might say 'well, it's the eight of cups - so use the number eight'. I went with my gut and chose the seven. As I continued to write, my astrological mentality drifted back seven years ago to 2003, which is when Uranus 'The Awakener' entered Pisces, ruling our illusions, dreams, and 'our reality'. If you connected with this meditation and affirmation, I want you to think about the number of major changes, breakdowns, and acts of defiance that were a part of your 2003 - 2010 to find your true self and worth. Uranus was literally 'waking us' to what we had been experiencing (or imagining) in hopes to release us from self-inflicted guilt, hopelessness, and drowning in our sorrows - to restore new faith and inspiration in our lives.

***Reading Tarot as a Business, Choosing Clients, Client Relations for the Sensitive Entrepreneur

Accepting whatever client happens when beginning a service business as an entrepreneur is normal. It can be a ruinous detour as a regular practice, though; and you may not be aware of the illfated turn at the time it happens. Example: I opened a court reporting office without directly soliciting any clients first. One of my first clients was a very busy law office run by an unethical man and his unethical wife. He had more than enough business to keep me busy without any other clients. I did not know having this man as a client would mean I would get no others; but I did know the way he was trying to not pay me what I was due was creepy. It was instinct and my quirky personality that led me to refer each and every job this man sent me to some court reporters in his building who were also beginning a business, who gave me the same bad vibes this client guy gave me. He said he did not like them, to not give his jobs to them, but I did anyway, and they got married. Those two guys (the reporters) were never grateful for the referrals, and they never got any other clients to speak of. The lawyer succeeded in making them work for far less than the standard rate. That uninformed rude maneuver on my part was one of the smartest things I ever did even though I went back to having no clients (to speak of) when I did that. Later, I was told that other lawyers would not use the same court reporter this lawyer did: that having him as a client was the 'kiss of death.'

Clients are the foundation of any business, especially a service business. Choosing clients will lay a deliberate foundation for the business. Choosing begins with who you are: That partially determines who you will attract as clients. Deliberately, consistently, project who you are in your ads, in the way you answer your phone, in the way you get paid, in your tone of voice and what you say (and don't say), even in your level of literacy. Everyone has a natural constituency; that is why I voted for John and you voted for Jim. That is why the vice president is a different type from the president. You want to attract your natural constituency because these are the people who also feel comfortable with you, people who will come back and do business regularly with you rather than someone else. You are 'their type.' When you deal with individuals like these, you are comfortable, you are having a good day, you project confidence. When you are dealing with people who are 'difficult' or people you are less comfortable with or are very uneasy with, you potentially project a lesser you for the balance of the day. Invariably, those you find discomforting will be your 'problem children' as clients.

Your ad should reflect who you are and, exactly in detail, what you can do for a first-time client right now. Nothing vague. No 'change your life,' no 'amazing.' People don't do business with you because you are wonderful or talented or respectable or well dressed; they do business with you because you comfortably supply a need or want they have. It is up to you in your ad to demonstrate that you do have what they want for a reasonable price; and when you do, you have a solid offer that gets a solid acceptance: People open their wallets.

You should be consistent in your image, in your presentation. If you are a precise but casual person, then the way you write and speak on the business telephone should reflect 'precise but casual.' If you are a crazy person in the wrestling promotion business, be prepared to be a crazy person all the time. If you are shy, warm and fuzzy, speak in a soft Marcus Welby voice sweetly all the time. There is no one right way to be because there are all kinds of potential clients to attract. Being an actor to some extent is necessary, really, but it is easier to act a character you actually are.

You can do everything wrong and succeed just as you can do everything right and fail. In the South Florida building boom, contractors would say 'Even drunks have steady work.' In hard times, the best people are hurting. But chances are good that anyone will do better in the professional services who states clearly what I need done, shows me he can do it, states clearly how much of my money I will be parting with, and is 'the kind of guy I would like to do business with.' We all have that formula in our gut, don't we? Be there.

Tarot Reading: Know Thy Self

Throughout time, man has been consumed with a need to connect with the spiritual dimension. We are driven to explore the mysteries of our very existence. For thousands of years, those who have yearned to live in harmony with the Universe have consulted with oracles and Gods. The most famous being the Oracle at Delphi. For centuries, many traveled to the Greek Island of Delphi to receive counsel from one of their oracles. Upon entering the temple, the words “Know Thy Self” were inscribed.

Although a great deal of advancement has occurred since the civilization of ancient Greece, we still seek to understand the meaning of our lives. In many ways, we are consulting with oracles all the time. These are our teachers, spiritual counselors, authors, artists, psychotherapists, grandparents, friends, etc. We are constantly attempting to discover who we truly are and as much as we seek out advice from others, the real guidance comes from within our own selves.

In Tarot Reading, the Tarot serves as an oracle. We consult with them to get “counsel”. The beauty, however, is that the Tarot is not a living and breathing entity. Rather it is a divinatory tool. A tool that is available to anyone who wishes to explore their own, inner world. Its energy comes from the energy we give it. It is there to disclose the secrets of ourselves that remain out of sight. The Tarot always provides guidance as to how we can achieve or manifest our goals. In tarot reading, the Tarot provides insight and new concepts. It is there to help us brainstorm, discovers what influences us and highlights situations that we may have been unaware of. Most importantly, the tarot offers one a new sense of awareness of who they are.

In a tarot reading, the Tarot never tells you what to do. It’s important to remember that you have your own will. You have the power to choose your own directions and behaviors. Rather than telling you what to do, the Tarot helps you to identify your feelings about the things that are going on in your life. When you consistently work with the Tarot, your own intuitive skills will improve. Making important decisions will no longer cause you anxiety or fear. You will inherently know what to do.

True divination is nothing less than seeking out the divine within all things. Tarot reading enables us to connect with ourselves, to humanity, and to the Universe. It is from this process, that we find the true magic and mysticism of this world.

***Tarot as Mental Exercise, as a Game Like Blackjack

Tarot is an exercise in creative thought. Quite apart from any messages or any use of messages it can produce, the act of simply figuring out language that arises from combinations of cards stretches one's mind: It is mental exercise like bridge or blackjack is.

There are 78 cards, and of course each card has many meanings by itself, and each combination of cards (3,003 possible two-card combinations exist) therefore has even more possible interpretations. This can be a fun game.

A fine exercise is to take one card, and put each of the other 77 cards with it one at a time, and say all the meanings you can imagine from each combination. Doing this process with a friend is double the fun. This is also a fine way to teach oneself to read Tarot to apply it to a subject or a question.

Another mental acrobatic is to put three or more cards down, apply a meaning to them as a group, then interpret as many two-card combinations as will arise out of them. This is interesting because the meaning of the full spread and the meanings of the double-card combinations are sometimes contradictory, sometimes unrelated (especially when one of the cards is a negative modifier, as Death is). Let's illustrate this process, shall we?

Our full spread means "not the lady he is looking for." Of course, these three can mean other things too; that does not matter right now. The three cards are:

The Page of Pentacles, who is thinking or believes...whatever. And he is male. The illustration shows him gazing intently at a disc with a star on it, thoughtful expression on his face.

The High Priestess, who is the lady. She is illustrated seated, looking sedate and passive.

The Four of Cups, who is refusing...in this case, an influence or experience. The illustration shows him with arms crossed, looking down. Three cups set in front of him and a fourth is being offered him by a hand coming from a gray cloud.

And here are the three two-card combinations they make:

Four of Cups + High Priestess = not the lady (as in not the lady he wants).

Four of Cups + Page of Pentacles = not what he is looking for, not what he wants, not the ___________ he wants.

High Priestess + Page of Pentacles = the lady he is looking for or at.

Notice "the lady he IS looking for" necessarily appears in a spread that means "not the lady he is looking for." Persons who read cards for meaning must attend to this!

It is that simple. Personally, I think it's fun, and am thrilled to be doing this for a living after 25 years of court reporting.
