Astrology: Tried and True Ancient Methods Triumph over Contemporary, Creative Methods

Imagine, an astrologer (who is widely known and seen as an “authority” in modern astrology circles) tells you, “You have potential to be a famous actor. But if you don’t strive to become one in the right ways, you’ll wallow in obscurity.”

Translation: that astrologer is hedging his bets and making his refusal or inability to do accurate assessment of personal fate your problem, unfortunately.

No legitimate professional in this field boasts 100% accuracy. The best an analyst or reader can do is offer their perspective and if they happen to be wrong once in a while, that’s acceptable. But to shroud one’s advice in New Age political correctness to the point of making it impossible for anyone to get direct answers to their questions is irresponsible.

Our empirical studies tell us that if someone is destined to become a famous actor they are fated to become a famous actor and will become a famous actor. Also, if someone is destined to serve in a modest support role in the play of life, that’s what they will do, this time.

We’re all for using modern-focused methods such as transits, secondary progressions, solar and lunar returns, and the more funky, creative, newer techniques (even though we’ve found many of those to be pure nonsense), as a means to firm up an existing comprehensive analysis based on tried and true ancient methods. However, to put the bulk of the emphasis on the modern methods and philosophies only invites vast inaccuracies, our research has consistently shown us.

You Only live 100,000 Times or More

If you look at your life as the result of multitudes of lifetimes and not just one (“You only live once”), it makes more sense why some seem to “have all the luck” and some don’t. It’s how you view and handle your circumstances that really matters.

Don’t worry about missing that one right “choice” that could potentially make all your dreams come true. Fate doesn’t work that way. You can relax, because if it’s meant to be, it will be. Keep forging ahead, make informed decisions, follow your heart, do what you need to do, and you’ll get to where you’re fated to be.

Psychology, Consciousness, & Modern Whimsy

Modern astrologers say they are excited about the astrological developments during the last century or so. They name Jungian psychology (being mixed into the science of astrology) as “groundbreaking,” yet we’re convinced it’s largely a way to sidestep real issues, like personal adversity, including poverty, and other life concerns connected to personal fate. Don’t get us wrong, we appreciate psychology when it’s approached constructively, but not the way many modern astrologers abuse it. You can’t interpret the charts through fuzzy psychological thinking and expect valid results.

“Progression of consciousness...” is a way of claiming that times have changed to the point where “...multi-dimensionality alters our realities beyond stoic fatalism...” We feel that this view is completely false and a poor excuse to deny that predicting personal fate is possible. It’s pure subterfuge and typical of the sort of skewed creativity modern astrology promotes to mask the original purpose of astrology (prediction of personal fate), which isn’t as marketable and profitable in the New Age.

Herd Mentality and Modern Methods

Furthermore, having 1000s of practitioners of modern methods, some of whom periodically gather for conferences through the organizations to which they belong, means very little as far as credibility goes. They may all pay $50 or more each year to belong, but it only means that they all share similar beliefs (e.g., denial of personal fate), and that they all largely go along with one another’s radical astrological creativity.

There is an abundance of people who favor modern methods, just like there is an abundance of modern astrological entertainment, excuse us, literature, on the shelves of book stores (next to the trashy tabloid magazines). Why? Because they’re taking the easy way out, at your cost. What sells well doesn’t have to be valid, it only has to be appealing and poetic or sexy, according to the whims of modern demand. No wonder the New Age has a bad reputation.

In conclusion, we recommend you maintain a sharp sense of discernment in dealing with modern, New Age methods and have the courage to go against the grain of conventional thinking. In doing so, you’ll have a huge advantage in your quest for spiritual awareness.

***Read Tarot and Develop Insight, Intuition and Creative Abilities—Yes, YOU Can, Here's How

Because psychics often use Tarot, people assume you need to be psychic to use this tool. The Rider Waite deck has scenes depicted on each card that can be applied to what you are thinking of, encouraging you to creative insight. With practice, to the extent you can spot patterns and trends in things, you will sense a theme in the cards you have put down. Start using just two cards at a time.

You don't even need one of those books that give meanings. In fact, most of them are counterproductive. Eden Gray's The Tarot, a Bantam paperback, is a book that will get you started, because the meanings there are mostly based on the illustrations in the Rider Waite deck. The whole-page description of each Major Arcanae in Eden Gray's book is very useful. Most of her descriptions of the Minor Arcanae do bring out what their meanings are, but you should ignore everything about reversed (upside down) cards. Repeat: You don't need a book; a book is a shortcut, though. Its downside would be that it limits your creative thinking.

First, of course, you must familiarize yourself with the scenes and how they might apply to general topics. In the beginning, simply ignore cards that don't have a meaning to you when you look at them for a while. Let's say you are looking at the fellow who is waiting for his ships to come in. Well, that is a cliché. We understand that one instantly. (That is the 3 of Wands.) It suggests waiting, something is in the future, something is coming.

Then let's say you are examining the scene of an extended family having a meeting, dogs present, overlooking a large building with a cupola, a stone fence perhaps, with green bushes behind it. An old man sits on a chair-throne. The dogs are paying attention to him. The couple, younger, some distance from him, is having a discussion but the man is not looking at the woman who is talking. He also has his back turned to the old man in the chair. Well, this is a tense scene and it has something to do with family, with problems or trouble. It suggests a discussion. Wealth and power are part of this scene. Whichever parts of this scene apply to your topic are the ones you use.

For example, with wealth/power + family + problems/trouble, this card sometimes suggests syndicate/mob/corrupt politics. With autocratic old man + a problem between persons, this card can also suggest power struggle, therefore persons being marginalized, what some people call 'discrimination,' a misnomer if ever there was one. See how the scene expands different ways, depending on how your topic applies it? It's that simple! (That card is the 10 of Pentacles.)

Let's say you have chosen these two cards with the topic in mind of whether to get serious about whom you are dating. The information suggested would be: There will be family problems; other people will interfere in your relationship. Was your topic whether to have a baby? There is a couple with a child, and the other card says 'it's coming.' Was your question whether the people at work will get along, or will cooperate in a project? Obviously, hashing out some complications will be in order.

Yes, Tarot is that simple if your thinking is that flexible.

As a matter of fact, the use of Tarot will influence your thinking being flexible. Tarot use will also expand the connection between your conscious and subconscious mind not only through its concepts being applied in creative intuitive ways, but through the visual images having meanings. The subconscious tends to favor visual information. As you do Tarot more and more, you will be able to think more and more insightfully. (P. S. It's fun, too!)

Insightful thinking expands your spiritual abilities. You can use Tarot directly for self-examination. You can ask "Why do I feel this way?" "Why did I do that?" "What do they think of me; how do they see me?" and so on. Do this enough, and you enrich and expand the parts of yourself that you choose to foster, and dampen the parts you least prefer in yourself.

***Brain Structure Impedes Creative Thinking, How You Get Out of the Box

The structure of any species' brain predisposes it to certain kinds of thinking. The recent scientific brain mapping experiments in which the same certain area of brain is stimulated in random humans, or is stimulated in a given category of human individuals, suggest that anything any of us think has likely been thought up by a member of our species before. Our uniqueness has its limits, in other words. We are programmed not only by environment, education and our psychology, but by anatomy. This fact is an excellent meditation for the development of humility; it makes self-analysis a lot less self-congratulatory. This thought of the ways we are programmed can also serve as a handy-dandy all-purpose excuse for not excelling or not developing ourselves. One of the findings of these brain mapping sessions is that the area associated with religious thought and feeling is also associated with delusion. That's OUR brain they are talkin' about!

Here our brain, the very organ that informs us about our reality, comes pre-programmed with chapter heads that are less than ideal. This is the 'box' we would like to 'think out of,' isn't it? Deprogramming oneself: That project is oceanic in scope. Drugs, psychiatry and mystical experiences are some common approaches to the impossible task. And of course some diseases of the brain or mind manage to deprogram and reprogram with no effort on our part, but not much choice either.

Are you one of those people who would like to be able to experience being out of this box at will? You need to know what the box is made of, if so.

ASSUMPTIONS ARE PART OF 'THE BOX'

A main ingredient of the box is assumptions and the purpose they serve, or that they originally served when forged. No tarring of assumptions with the 'bad-guy' brush here: Rethinking afresh each instance of one's life at each occurrence, instead of learning from experience, is the only alternative to not assuming! But sometimes we assume 'when we are not looking' and hurt ourselves. We would like to think creatively. So it is useful to identify and classify assumptions. Psychological assumptions are especially suspect as obstacles to creative thinking.

UNCONSCIOUS PARTS OF CONSCIOUS THINKING ARE PART OF 'THE BOX'

Another main ingredient of the box is the chains of sequences in our thinking that have become reflexive they have been welded together for so long. You could call these the unconscious parts of conscious thinking. Loops. Shortcuts. Concepts. Going back to the structure of the brain that the scientists are mapping, the brain's electrical impulses trace pathways that ARE our thoughts, pathways that use open spaces (synapses) as crossroads. The well-traveled pathways are like highways, and the extremely well-traveled ones, the chains-of-sequences ones, are like limited-access highways. The loop or reflexive process is real, not theoretical: It is happening in your mind as you read these words, because reading is of course a reflexive process you learned in grammar school.

We humans can become aware of our thought processes, especially with practice. We can, if we make the effort, sense when the electrical trace of our thought goes into unconscious overdrive, the signature of 'the box' and choose a different turn at that synapse intersection instead of following the usual pattern. That 'different turn' is creative thinking. This practice of steering the thought off the track is of course a meditation, and it has a very private thrill associated with its realizations! You may find yourself, for instance, blinking your eyes as your thinking zips through one of these concept loops, a nice tell-tale symptom to look for. Taking your brain out and playing with it can be entertaining as well as informative.

CLASSIFYING PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSUMPTIONS BY THE FEELINGS THEY GIVE OFF

We humans can, by making a similar effort, get a feel for the assumptions in our mindsets. The psychological assumptions have earmark emotions associated with them. Some of these to get you started are:

* A self-serving assumption emits a righteous powerful feeling. Think Nurse

Ratchett or Mother Angelica. Think 'self-congratulatory.'

* A self-defeating assumption exudes that twinge of guilt-plus-getting-away-with-something that kids experience when they dodge a chore and excuse themselves by whining. Think politicians' comments when they are caught in one of their shenanigans. Think 'sleazing out.'

* Another feeling is associated with falsely reassuring ourselves Pollyanna style. Think the tone of voice we associate with campaign promises.

Conversely, there is also a 'vibe' or atmosphere associated with objective thought.

Assumptions that enable us give off a solid reassuring strength sensation.

The process of identifying psychological assumptions by sensing their emotional signature requires the kind of internal integrity and honest insight that puts a person on a spiritual path. Personal power arises from 'busting' assumptions that impede and appreciating ones that enable.

Being the passenger looking out the window as your thoughts drive along creates, eventually, an ability to critique the moment as you live it, which adds a depth dimension, a detached dimension, to your personality. You care less about the immediate scene because there's a buffer of analysis between you and it. You can shrug off petty stresses as well as you can avoid being overly impressed with your own achievements.

Being able to sense when you are 'in the box' and being able to step outside of that box clears the ground for creative thinking.
